Ubisoft, on Tuesday, has launched the Ubisoft Quartz platform to bring the first energy-efficient NFTs playable in Ghost Recon. The Ubisoft Quartz will be offering the "Digits", i.e., the collectable pieces of the Ubisoft game. Note that these digits are the NFTs playable in AAA games that run on an energy-efficient technology.

The Digits or the Ubisoft Quartz’s NFTs will be made available in the form of in-game items such as weapons, vehicles and equipment in the Ghost Recon. These Digits are said to be the limited edition NFTs. Each Digit is unique and has a serial number on it. Digit’s metadata contains the Ubisoft Connect username, and the usernames are added to the metadata when the Digits are sold to a new owner. Hence, it can create a history of ownership for that NFT.

Ubisoft is the first gaming company to launch in-game NFTs.

Ubisoft is a Video game publisher which is known to create meaningful gaming experiences for players. It makes high-quality games allowing everybody to learn and gown together along with having fun, and its games resonate with all kinds of personalities. In terms of market capitalization, Ubisoft is ranked 23rd among the largest gaming companies across the globe, with a market cap of 6.24 billion.

With the launch of Ubisoft Quartz, Ubisoft has officially entered into the Non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and the platform will be launched in beta phase with Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Ubisoft connect for the PC players.

Ubisoft Quartz runs on Tezos:

Ubisoft has chosen Tezos blockchain to build the Ubisoft Quartz platform. Note that Tezos is an open-source platform that addresses the barriers faced during the adoption of blockchain.

Tezos is a privacy-focused network that is known for its energy efficiency. From a recent report, it is pretty evident that Tezos has reduced the carbon footprint and the consumption of energy.

The energy efficiency of the “Digits” lies in the fact that these are being used on the Tezos network. Ubisoft Quartz will leverage the energy-efficient technology on the Tezos blockchain, which is a proof-of-stake blockchain. Note that a proof-of-stake blockchain can potentially achieve the same results as that of a proof-of-work protocol but with significantly less consumption of energy.

Closing thoughts

Non-fungible tokens are becoming immensely popular because they can potentially add value to digital goods. Ubisoft’s entry into the NFTs seems to be another significant step towards the wider adoption and growth of Non-fungible tokens.
